Product Recall

For your baby’s safety, Nestlé UK & Ireland is voluntarily recalling batches of infant formula and follow-on formula.
This is a preventative measure due to the potential presence of cereulide in the batches concerned. The safety and well-being of babies is our top priority. This is a voluntary and precautionary action. No other batch or product marketed by Nestlé UK & Ireland is affected.
You will find the batch number on the base of the tin or box for powdered formulas or the base of the outer box and on the side / top of the container for ready-to-feed formulas.
A message from our Managing Director
Dear Parent,
We take our responsibility to families and babies seriously. Our care for families and infants is the reason we all come to work every day, and we pride ourselves on being there for you when you need us.
As you know, we recently found that one of the ingredients supplied to us was not of the right quality and did not meet the standards we require. The safety and wellbeing of babies is our highest priority. That means we cannot accept a product that is anything less than perfect and we can only apologise that some of our products fell below those exceptionally high standards. In these circumstances, taking the precaution of recalling all potentially affected products is the right thing to do.
I want to assure you that the rigorous testing which brought this issue to light is being stepped up even further and we are restoring supply as quickly as we possibly can.
You can be sure that my team and I are working relentlessly to deliver for you and your families, and to make sure that our high standards are maintained now and in the future.
If you have any questions or concerns then you can speak to our Careline team 0800 0 81 81 80 (UK) or 1800 931 832 (Ireland) and if you have any health concerns on behalf of your baby, please contact a healthcare professional as they can support every family’s unique circumstances.
Sincerely,
Vicky Woods, Managing Director, Nestlé Nutrition UK & Ireland

Frequently Asked Questions
We’re recalling specific batches of SMA formula; find out if your product is impacted HERE. This is a precautionary, voluntary recall due to the potential presence of cereulide in the batches concerned. The safety and quality of our products, and the health of babies, are our top priority
Bacillus cereus is a microorganism that can naturally be found in raw ingredients and sometimes in foods like milk or dairy products. Most strains are harmless and don’t affect food safety.
However, in some situations, Bacillus cereus can produce cereulide, which has the potential to cause foodborne illness. The potential presence of cereulide is the reason that certain batches are being recalled; in these circumstances, taking the precaution of recalling all potentially affected products is the right thing to do.
The main symptoms to be aware of are severe or persistent vomiting, diarrhoea or unusual lethargy. If these appear, they would typically happen within 30 minutes to 6 hours after your baby has consumed the product.
If your baby seems well and isn’t showing any of these symptoms, there is no cause for concern of any health impact. If you are unsure or worried about your baby’s health, please speak to a healthcare professional.
The symptoms are generally self-limiting and usually resolve within 24 hours after last consumption. If you have any concerns about your child's health or nutrition, we advise you to talk to your health care professional.
If you have a product from one of the affected batches, please do not feed this to your baby, and dispose of the product.
To get a refund for your affected product, simply share a photo it and the batch code via Product Recall | SMA Baby or call our Careline on 0800 0 81 81 80 (UK) 1800 931 832 (Ireland).
If you have been prescribed one of the batches listed (for instance For SMA® Alfamino, Lactose Free or Anti-Reflux) please dispose of the product and speak to your Healthcare Professional for advice on an alternative. They are best placed to offer advice and support.

In this situation, we recently found that one of the ingredients supplied to us was not of the right quality and did not meet the standards we require.
We’ve already taken a number of immediate steps. One of these was switching to a different supplier for the ingredient in question.
We are also strengthening our testing processes, expanding them so that every single batch containing the ingredient is now tested for cereulide before it is used in our infant and follow-on formulas.
These additional safeguards are designed to further strengthen our processes and help ensure you can continue to trust our products with confidence.
